I'm Sophia. It's nice to meet you.

I'm an eco-printing & wet-felting textile artist obsessed with making beautiful eco-friendly silk & wool products with my hands.

I've created my small business, New Day, which I hold very close to my heart.

When I first started eco-printing & wet-felting, I had absolutely no idea where to start. I spent hours searching Google, watched hundreds of youtube videos, read a variety of blogs, scoured Pinterest, and still I had very little confidence. I spent money on things I didn't need because I didn't know what was essential to the process.

It wasn't until I took my first Eco-printing workshop with Nicola Brown (a Gold Standard for Eco-printing) that I started feeling confident. From there I took several wet-felting workshops too. I knew there was a great deal of value in taking workshops and joining a truly supportive community of other teachers and students.

With this in mind, I created New Day to share my knowledge and the lessons I learned through short video tutorials and longer course learning modules.

My intention was to create something that I wished was available to me when I started -- for a faster, smoother, and more confident start.

I am passionate about using natural materials and local vegetation to create high quality eco-friendly garments.

My current practice incorporates felt making, eco printing and natural dyeing: I collect my own print materials locally, as well as dye materials & vegetation from my neighbourhood.

I chose the name "New Day" to signify that garments I use, bought from second hand and consignment, can be redesigned & repurposed for a fresh start.

Stained silk or linens are my specialty. I can up-cycle them with my eco-printing techniques to hide any imperfections, keeping them from ending up in the landfill.

Each garment is completely unique, with little to no environmental footprint. I offer an opportunity to contribute to slow fashion, keeping a clear conscious so we can be proud of our choices, and wear our garments with joy.

Please Note:
This is not a fast fashion brand, I carefully select and design each garment, and do not produce in mass amounts. With this in mind, I unfortunately do not have a return policy. I kindly ask that if it does not fit, that you gift it to a new owner, who I hope will love and cherish it to the end of its cycle.
